SEO and Social Media

Using social media for SEO is no longer about getting likes - it’s about maximizing discoverability. While social media signals (likes and shares) aren't a direct ranking factor for search engines, social platforms have become "quasi-search engines" in their own right.

Social Media and SEO

You've likely heard that social media doesn't really help your SEO. That's a bit of a half-truth that often trips up business owners. Likes on a Facebook post won't move you to the top of page one, the overall effect is very real. When you share a new product, service or business update, you're driving traffic to your site. Google watches how people interact with your pages things like “how long do you spend on a page”,  “do you click on a link” or “do you navigate to a new site” to figure out if your content is actually helpful. If people land on your site from a LinkedIn post and stay to read, that sends a signal that your site provides value.

More people looking at your content means a better chance of someone else linking to you. If an industry professional,  peer or community news site sees your post and references it, you’ve just earned a backlink. These are some of the strongest signals for domain authority in the search world. Social platforms make your content "discoverable" to the people who have the power to link to you.

For local businesses, social profiles help solidify your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency. It is critical that your business information matches across Instagram, Facebook, and your website. This tells search engines you’re a legitimate, active business. Additionally, social activity often leads to more branded searches; people looking specifically for your business name on Google instead of just a general category. This is a massive trust signal that can help your rankings.

Search engines are constantly looking for new information. Creating links to social platforms can help Bing's "spiders" find and index your pages faster than without them. Social media builds the trust and the audience that SEO needs to thrive. The traffic and brand awareness they create are the foundation of a solid search strategy.
